Education beyond Realms

A large share of young people spend hours a week inside Fortnite, Minecraft, Roblox and similar immersive worlds. Those are places where friendships form, conflicts happen, money changes hands and identities are tried out. Youth workers are trained for the street, the club and the classroom, rarely for any of that.

MEFER builds on the earlier ProMeta project, which introduced youth workers to basic digital tools. What is needed now is not another tool list but a training route: what these environments are, how they affect people, how to keep young people safe in them, and how to run activities inside them.

The partnership is deliberately mixed, so the curriculum is neither academic theory with no practice behind it nor practice with no evidence behind it. It runs in an ordinary browser, it is not a certified qualification, and its learners are the youth workers rather than the young people themselves.
